Women among several PTI workers arrested in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police arrested several workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) including women from the rally in solidarity with the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Pakistan, ARY News reported.

As per details, heavy number of police personnel along with the prisoner van were deployed at F9 Park Islamabad.

As the rally approached the F9 park the Islamabad police started arresting the PTI workers and arrested four PTI workers including two women. The police vacated has vacated Jinnah Avenue from the PTI workers. 

Earlier today, PTI held rallies across the country in a show of solidarity with the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial amid a stand-off between the judiciary and the government over the elections date.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held rallies in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar and other cities on Saturday evening simultaneously.

Addressing the party workers and supporters the former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced to hold public gatherings from Monday (May 8) following the government’s ‘reluctance’ to hold elections on May 14 despite orders from Supreme Court (SC).

He also warned the ruling coalition that if they defer elections in Punjab till after the federal budget, they will resort to the street until “the Constitution and the rule of law are restored”.
