ISLAMABAD: About 0.2 million people almost straight off downloaded forms for ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme’ on Thursday, after the government released forms for the affordable housing scheme, the National Database Regulatory Authority (Nadra) spokesperson said.
Within an hour, 62,000 forms were downloaded by people from 174 countries around the world, he said adding that the website was temporarily crashed owing to a large number of people’s rushing for the forms at once. He said the program was getting 10,000 hits a second.
The Nadra spokesperson said this was first phase of the scheme and initially pilot phase would be started in seven districts.
According to requirements for obtaining a form, an applicant needed to provide his/her complete information including name, Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number, monthly income and residential address for registration.

The government released application forms for the Naya Pakistan Housing Project that can be obtained from designated offices of Nadra from Thursday.
The forms can be submitted to the designated offices of Nadra with Rs250 application fee.
The government has planned 0.5m low cost houses under the project. In the first phase of the project, Faisalabad, Sukkur, Quetta, Swat, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and KPK respectively in addition to Muzaffarabad, Islamabad and Gilgit have been selected for proportionate share of all provinces in the soft launch of the project.
Speaking at the launch of the housing scheme, the prime minister expressed confidence that the programme would not only help realise the dream of a shelter for the poor but also create employment opportunities. It will also attract local and foreign investment and stimulate about forty related industries.
He announced formation of a Naya Pakistan Housing Authority to serve as one window for all construction related formalities. The authority would be set up in three months and till then a Task Force would look after the housing project.
