Pakistan’s political leadership on Friday in a high-level meeting decided to amend the constitution to provide constitutional cover to the establishment of military courts.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present in the house on the occasion. The house session was adjourned till 4:00 pm on Monday.
The constitutional amendment bill would need to be passed by two-thirds of the total participants in both the 342-seat National Assembly and the 104-seat Senate. The amendment in the Army Act, however, required simple majority.
The bill tabled by the government in the lower house of the parliament will be approved clause-wise in the assembly on Monday.
