51st death anniversary of Fatima Jinnah being observed today

KARACHI: The 51st death anniversary of Mother of the Nation (Madar-e-Millat) Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah is being observed today with reverence. 

Fatima Jinnah was one of the leading founders of Pakistan who emerged as a strong advocate of a separate country. In the struggle of freedom for Pakistan, she was a close associate and an adviser of her elder brother Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

From the struggle to the establishment of Pakistan, Fatima Jinnah worked side by side with Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Born on July 31,

1893, the young sister of Quaid-e-Azam was a leading member of the All-India Muslim League and alongside her political activities, she served as a dental surgeon. Fatima Jinnah achieved her dental degree from University of Calcutta in 1923.

After the independence of Pakistan, Jinnah co-founded the Pakistan Women’s Association which played a significant role in the settlement of the women migrants in the newly formed country.

The Lady of Pakistan (Khātūn-e Pākistān) died on Jul 9, 1967. Her funeral prayers were attended by nearly half a million people in Karachi.
