7 children, 3 women among 13 dead in Karachi’s landslide

After toiling all day at work, residents of katchi abadis or slums were caught unaware late in the night by a deadly landslide, which claimed the lives of 13 people. Among the dead were 7 children and 3 women. According to details, the majority of the people died as they were buried under the debris.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the locals rushed to their own help and tried to help the injured. However, due to absence of heavy machinery and equipment as well as obstacles, their rescue efforts were faced difficulties.

An eyewitness recounted how mud was constantly falling from a mountain

nearby and then all of a sudden, it started falling on the slums. After ARY News highlighted the issue, the administration became active and Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui reached the scene of the incident with heavy machinery.

“The city’s rescue bodies have been alerted to cope with the situation,” he said.

The rescue operation is still underway and Rangers have also joined in to facilitate rescue teams who are busy helping those still buried under the debris. Bodies have been dug out and it has been learnt that 8 of the deceased belonged to Bahawalpur while 5 belonged to Rahim Yar Khan.
