Afghan envoy meets JI chief Sirajul Haq

ISLAMABAD: Afghan presidential envoy Umer Daudzai held a meeting with Jamaat Islami chief Sirajul Haq on Friday to discuss the peace process in Afghanistan.

“A peaceful Afghanistan is essential for the neighboring Pakistan and the regional peace,” asserted Haq.

He said the key to peace in Afghanistan lies in the hands of the Afghan people. “Afghan government should take the opposition parties in confidence over the peace process in the country.”

The envoy reached Islamabad, earlier on Tuesday for an important visit.

During his stay, Daudzai  will hold meetings with Pakistan’s leadership to discuss the Afghanistan peace process.

He also met Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi who assured him that Pakistan would make all-out efforts to seek an end to the conflict in the neighbouring country.

On the occasion, Daudzai lauded Pakistan’s tireless efforts for bring peace and tranquility in Afghanistan and in the region.

A new era of dialogue on political facilitation in Afghanistan and partial pullout of the US troops is expected to begin after the new impetus to peace process in the country.

US President Donald Trump had recently announced calling back a significant number of US troops from Afghanistan.
