Karachi police chief warns strict action against cops violating traffic laws

KARACHI: “Abide traffic laws, else be ready for the strict action”, Karachi Police chief Ameer Ali Shaikh warned policemen in a notification issued on Tuesday.

Additional Inspector General Police in a circular ordered policemen to wear helmets and keep their driving licenses with them while driving.

“It has been observed that cops are not following traffic laws, nor they stop at the traffic signals”, read the circular.

AIG Ameer Ali Shaikh has ordered policemen not to set aside traffic rules, else fines and action according to the law will be taken against them.

On the other hand, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has started the work of setting up a separate motorbike track reserved for motorcyclists alongside Shahrah-e-Faisal.

It will be compulsory for the motorbike riders to wear helmets and follow other traffic rules while riding on the bike track.

The track for motorcyclists will cover the area from Malir Halt to the Metropole Hotel in Saddar.

The anti-encroachments department of KMC in this connection already removed encroachments on both tracks of the road in an operation.

The motorbike track is said to be completed within a month.

The city government has announced to transform Shahrah-e-Faisal, the key traffic artery of the metropolis into a model road. The road, which is one of the busiest in the city, also connects it with the airport.
