Ammunition depot blast in India’s Maharashtra leaves six dead

MUMBAI: An explosion reported at the Indian army’s Central Ammunition Depot on Tuesday morning in Indian state of Maharashtra left six people dead.

Three people were critically injured in the incident, an Indian media report said.

According to reports the early morning blast occurred while unloading ammunition of 23mm at the demolition ground at the ammunition depot in Pulgaon.

The demolition ground was given to an ordnance factory, Khamaria, for their demolition activities, reports said. The blast took place during the disposal process of the expired ammunition.

Three people were declared dead on the spot as the ammunition explode. The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital.

Three injured people died during treatment, nine, including the three critically injured, were still admitted in the hospital.

The deceased include an ammunition factory employee and three labourers, reports said.
