ANF foils drug smuggling bid at Karachi airport, arrests passenger

KARACHI: The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) on Wednesday foiled a smuggling attempt at the Jinnah International Airport and arrested a man, ARY News reported.

A passenger named Mir Muhammad was about to board a foreign airline when he was caught by ANF officials for carrying packets of heroin in his luggage. The arrested man was heading to Saudi Arabia.

The man was caught smuggling drugs during screening of his bags.

According to officials, the value of the drugs was worth millions of rupees in the international market.

The ANF spokesperson said the passenger had been detained and further investigation from him was underway.

Earlier this month, the Anti-Narcotic Force personnel had foiled a bid to smuggle drugs to Italy while taking action at Faisalabad airport. According to ANF spokesperson, officials recovered seven kilograms of heroin worth Rs60 million in the international market during the raid conducted at Faisalabad airport.

A person was also arrested in the raid, the spokesperson added. However, identification of the arrested person was not yet disclosed.

ANF sources said that the accused person was smuggling the drugs with coordination of facilitators at the airport.

Similarly on April 2, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had seized a suspicious parcel full of prohibited medicines used for intoxication by drug addicts during a raid conducted at Karachi airport.
