KARACHI: Terming protests against the ongoing anti-encroachment operation in the Saddar area of the city illegal, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said that the municipal authorities will not allow anyone to encroach the city.
Talking to journalists outside the Empress Market, he said that the government will not succumb to any pressure and stern action will be taken against encroachers.
The mayor said they will comply with the top court’s orders in letter and spirit. He said that the government and all the institutions are on the same page against encroachments in the city.
He vowed to continue the operation against land mafia and assured to restore peace in the metropolis. The mayor said that operation against land mafia and encroachers was launched in collaboration with Rangers in the city.
Waseem Akhtar said they will insure safety of legal shops and businesses during the operation. He said that they will also take action against illegal parking and agreements signed in the previous tenure.
The mayor said that they do not want to deprived anyone of their livelihood but will not allow anyone to encroach in the city.

It is pertinent to mention here that the anti-encroachment drive, launched by the civic authorities in the Saddar area of Karachi, continued on the fourth day today to clear the commercial hub of illegal constructions.
The operation was conducted today around Tibet Centre, Akbar Road and Zaibunnisa Street of Saddar and adjoining areas.
