Anti-measles drive: Two vaccinated children die in Quetta

A 12-day anti-measles campaign kicked off in 32 districts of Balochistan on Monday, aiming at vaccinating 3.5 million children across the province.

During the government’s anti-measles drive five children have been died after vaccination in three days, sources said. Nine vaccinated children said to be seriously ill, according to the reports.

Balochistan health department, however, claimed that the deceased children were suffering from diarrhea.

According to the health department sources, as many as five children had died so far from measles in Balochistan during the past three months while 251 had been affected.

Around 26 children had died in 2014 and 43 in 2013 in the province while more than one thousands were affected.

The Health Department sources said that as many as 101 children die out of 1,000 in Balochistan before reaching their fifth birthday. Around 97 die before their first birthday.
