APC demands resignation of Shahbaz, issues five-point declaration

LAHORE: The ‘All Party Conference’ convened by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Model Town tragedy demanded resignation of the chief minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, ARY News reported Sunday.

The APC also demanded formation of a 3-member judicial commission comprising Supreme Court judges to probe the incident.

These demands were inscribed in a joint declaration that was unanimously approved by the APC. The conference was attended by representatives of different political parties including Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of the MQM and Shah Mehmood Qureshi of the PTI. Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain were also among the participants.

Five-point declaration as read out by Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri during a press talk are as follows;

1-  The culprits of Model Town incident should no more be in authority or power.

2-  The first information report (FIR) on behalf of victims should be registered forthwith.

3-  Chief Minister Punjab should immediately resign over Model Town tragedy.

4-  All responsible officers should be sacked and arrested accordingly.

5-  Independent and fair probe should be held by judicial commission of Supreme Court comprising three non-controversial judges. The commission should be entitled to summon prime minister and chief minister Punjab. The nominated judges should enjoy confidence of all persons concerned. 

The declaration termed the Model Town carnage of June 17 as the worst example of state terrorism.

The APC rejected the FIR lodged by the police. The meeting said incident of Model Town wouldn’t have been possible without orders of CM Punjab.
