LAHORE: Pakistan Army has expressed serious reservations over former spy chief Lieutenant General (retd) Asad Durrani’s recently released book ‘The Spy Chronicles: RAW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace’ and has summoned him to seek an explanation, ARY News reported on Friday.
According to sources within the military, army has serious reservations over some of the claims made by the former ISI chief in the book he co-authored with a former Indian spy chief AS Daulat and has summoned Durrani to the General Headquarters (GHQ) for clarification.
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor confirmed the development through a tweet and said that Durrani has been summoned on May 28 and he “will be asked to explain his position on views attributed to him” in the book.
“Attribution taken as violation of Military Code of Conduct (is) applicable on all serving and retired military personnel,” Asif Ghafoor said in the tweet.
Asad Durrani, who served as the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief from August 1990 till March 1992, co-authored the book titled ‘The Spy Chronicles: RAW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace’ with former Indian spy chief AS Dulat.
The book was released jointly by India’s former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Vice president Hamid Ansari, former Union minister Yashwant Sinha and a few others in the event organised in New Delhi on May 24.
The book has been styled as a conversation between two spymasters and covers a wide range of subjects including India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval’s way of functioning, the Kashmir issue and several other issues between India and Pakistan.
