Arshad Sharif's widow sues Kenyan police

NAIROBI: Javeria Siddique, wife of slain journalist Arshad Sharif, has filed a lawsuit against Kenyan police, according to the foreign media outlet.

Arshad Sharif, senior journalist and former ARY News anchor, was shot dead in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on October 23 where he was living in self-exile.

Last week, Sharif’s wife told foreign media outlet AFP in Islamabad that she was filing a lawsuit.

On Monday, her lawyer confirmed it had been lodged at Kenya’s High Court, a year to the day since the late-night killing.

The five Kenyan policemen, who were involved in the killing of former ARY News anchorperson and senior journalist Arshad Sharif, have ‘resumed’ their official duties without facing any accountability, it emerged earlier.

This claim was made by the Kenyan Crime and Investigative journalist, Nyaboga Kiage. The journalist said the five cops involved in the fatal shootout are back to work and two of them have been promoted to senior ranks.

The Islamabad police had registered the FIR against the murder on the orders of the Supreme Court in December 2022.

Last month, an Islamabad district and sessions court stopped proceedings in the case of journalist Arshad Sharif’s killing due to a “lack of interest” from the prosecution.
