ARY Network took the lead in initiating a nationwide campaign for observing July 8 as National Charity Day and that drive drew overwhelming public response on different platforms.
Several prominent figures as well as civil society members have signed the petition to endorse ARY’s initiative for acknowledging noble services of revered social worker Edhi who passed away after prolonged illness on July 8, 2016.
Zareen Zia Marwat, legislator at the KP Assembly, moved the resolution in the House today that was approved by all the assembly members.

The resolution demands the government to declare July 8 as National Charity Day – a clamour that is shared by the nation.
In their acknowledgment, Chief ministers’ of Sindh and Balochistan were among the first ones to step up endorse the campaign.
Earlier, a formal signature campaign also attracted massive public response with hundreds of people signing the petition urging the government to declare July 8 as National Charity Day.
Celebrated social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi who breathed his last on July 8, opened his first clinic in 1951 to begin his lifelong journey for the welfare of the downtrodden segments of the Pakistani society.
Motivated by a spiritual quest for justice, over the years Edhi and his team have created maternity wards, morgues, orphanages, shelters, and homes for the elderly aimed at helping those in society who cannot help themselves.
He was also mentioned in the Guinness Book of world records for the largest fleet of ambulances, offering help to poor sections of the society failed by inadequate public health and welfare services.
