Zardari, Talpur to seek another bail extension in money laundering case

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur to appear before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) as their interim bail is expiring on Wednesday (today), ARY News reported.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani will hear the petitions of the PPP leaders.

Zardari and Talpur to appear before the court today along with their counsel Farooq H. Naek to seek another extension in their bail in the mega money laundering case.

The IHC will take up the bail plea after 11.30am today. Strict security measures have been taken to avoid any unforeseen event during the all important court appearance.

On last hearing of the case, the court had extended interim bail of former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur until May 15 (today) in the money laundering case.

To a question, a NAB had prosecutor informed the court that the bureau’s chairman had issued arrest warrants for Zardari only in the Park Lane case.

The bench had  directed NAB to submit a written reply, explaining how many inquiries has the bureau been carrying out against the former president.

Zardari, his sister and other accused are facing charges of laundering more than Rs35 billion through fake bank accounts. Zardari’s close aides Hussain Lawai and Anwar Majeed have also been nominated in the scam. They both are in judicial custody.

Last month, a banking court in Karachi transferred the money laundering case against the former president, his sister and others to Rawalpindi on a request by NAB.
