At least five killed, 25 injured in blast in Bajaur Agency

BAJAUR AGENCY: At least five people killed and 25 others injured as a result of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Bajaur Agency’s Chaharmang area on Friday.

According to initial reports, quoting political administration officials, the roadside remote controlled blast ripped through a truck in Nawagai Tehsil, killing five people on the spot while injuring 25 others.

Most of the injured are labourers, sources said.

The injured have been shifted to the tribal region’s Headquarter Hospital in Khar. At least seven of the blast victims are said to be in precarious condition.

Arrangements are being made to shift the critical injured to Peshawar for medical treatment via helicopter.

Identification of blast victims could not be established immediately. However, all injured and deceased are said to be locals of the area.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and search operation has been underway.

The incident took place after a span of two days when DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Wednesday had said the armed forces have achieved 95 per cent objective of the ongoing Operation Khyber-4, launched under Operation Raddul Fasaad  in the Rajgal valley of Khyber Agency, another tribal region of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
