ATC to record statements of Imran Farooq murder accused on April 19

ISLAMABAD: The murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq has entered in a decision phase as the anti-terrorism court (ATC) will give a questionnaire to accused in hearing today, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in previous hearing had apprised the court (ATC) that all the evidence in the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq had been collected.

The court would provide a questionnaire to accused Khalid Shameem, Mohsin Ali and Moazzam Ali and would record their statements under section 342.

The ATC has prepared a questionnaire and asked 31 questions from the accused. The questions will be provided to the defence lawyers today.

The court has decided to record the statements of the accused on April 19.

The three main suspects in the Imran Farooq murder case, had been indicted by the anti-terrorism court on May 2, 2018.

The murder case of Dr. Imran Farooq was registered in 2015.

On January 30, The Islamabad High Court had directed the FIA to approach the ATC, if it wanted to seek time to get more evidence from the United Kingdom where Farooq was murdered in 2010 in London.

It is pertinent to mention here that accused Shamim had earlier confessed that Farooq’s murder was a ‘birthday gift’ for the MQM founder while another accused Syed had stated that he took part in the crime because he was promised a position in the MQM’s London Secretariat.

Dr Imran Farooq was stabbed and bludgeoned to death near his apartment in London in September 2010.
