Audio leaks: Rana Sanaullah says matter might go to SJC

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the matter of audio leaks might go to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), ARY news reported.

As per details, Rana Sanaullah said that the government was under pressure from civil society over the investigation of audio leaks.

He said that there are some audio leaks regarding the court decisions and the released verdicts were the same as those revealed in the audio leaks. 

The interior minister stated that the matter will be forwarded to Judicial Commission if the investigation revealed that the audio leaks are true.

Furthermore, he maintained that the accused cannot use privacy as a shield against the investigation of audio leaks.

Earlier in the day, the federal government formed a three-member judicial commission, led by Supreme Court senior puisne judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, to probe the multiple audio leaks about the judiciary.

The other members of the judicial commission include Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Islamabad High Court (IHC) CJ Aamer Farooq. The commission has been directed to complete the task within 30 days.

An audio clip purportedly featuring former prime minister Imran Khan and US Congresswoman Maxine Waters has come to light.

In the alleged conversation, Imran Khan could be heard telling a US congresswoman about the removal of his government by ex-army chief Gen (r) Bajwa. The former premier also reportedly asked a US politician to make a statement and raise her voice in support of PTI.

“We are going through difficult times in Pakistan right now and my life is also in danger,” he said in alleged audio, adding that 99% of Pakistan wanted him in power again.
