Ayaz Sadiq seeks removal of RO over ‘political bias’

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has accused the returning officer of Lahore’s NA-129 constituency of showing bias in favor of his political rival and demanded of the electoral body to remove him from the post at once.

In a letter written to the Chief Election Commissioner, he complained that Returning Officer Ghulam Murtaza asked him unnecessary and extraneous questions about his foreign visits and development work, which did not pertain to scrutiny of his nomination papers.

He claimed that when PTI leader Aleem Khan appeared before the RO, the latter asked him why he has come as his nomination form has already been accepted.

He further complained that his political opponent was not questioned while he was not only summoned in person but also questioned by the RO.

Terming the RO’s attitude pre-poll rigging, Sadiq said, if he remained on the post, his declaring results of candidates contesting from the constituency after voting would also remain controversial and that his party would not accept them.
