SYDNEY: Sydney Sixers humbled Sydney Thunder by nine wickets in the opening game of the Big Bash League played at Sydney Showground Stadium on Tuesday, ARY News reported.
Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques and opener Daniel Hughes scored unbeaten half centuries to help their side clinch a convincing win in the league opener.
Thunder, invited to take guard, amassed 159/8 in their given 20 overs as Ryan Gibson contributed 53 runs off 43 balls with six boundaries to his name while Pat Cummins hit three sixes as he scored 30 runs for the team.
Eoin Morgan made 26 runs from 19 deliveries with the help of three fours and a six while Clint McKay scored 14 off 11 after hitting a boundary and a maximum.
Sixers bowlers Ben Dwarshuis, Joe Mennie, Doug Bollinger grabbed two wickets each while Steve O’Keefe and Johan Botha dismissed one batsmen each.
Sixers reached the target of 160 in 18 overs with nine wickets to spare as Henriques, with the help of seven boundaries and two sixers, scored 76 runs from 41 deliveries while Daniel Hughes made 54 runs from 49 balls with five fours and a six to his name.
Andre Russell got the only wicket for the Thunder.
The Sixers’ captain was named the man of the match for his show with the bat.
