KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday called upon the caretaker federal government to rescue thousands of people marooned in the Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district and other parts severely affected by floodwaters and landslides unleashed by melting of glaciers.
In a statement, the PPP chairman has pointed out that grim situation has devastated huge population who stand marooned due to widespread havoc created by the natural calamity. He expressed sympathies with those who lost their loved ones in the disaster.
He said that federal and GB governments should not allow any delinquency on the
part of administration and provide immediate rescue and relief to those marooned and affected by the flood and landslides. He urged for restoration of roads and communication network in the affected areas without any delay.

Following the glacier melt, at least 30 houses were inundated as well as cultivated land, a link road and cattle farms. Several vehicles were also washed away in its wake.
