LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat jail, ARY News reported on Monday.

The PPP top leader inquired after the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Bilawal is accompanied by PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Jameel and Hassan Murtaza in the meeting between the top leaders of the major opposition parties.

He was allowed to meet Sharif in accordance with jail the manual and regulations. The meeting can be continued for up to 1 – 1.5 hours, sources said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab home department earlier on March 9 had granted a request by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to meet the former premier.

The meeting is being termed as crucial for the political scenario in future.

The top leadership of the PML-N and PPP, once called political arch-rivals, was facing graft probes and proceedings in different cases.

The political opponents have apparently decided to sit together for removing their differences after the emergence of latest developments into ongoing graft cases and recent court proceedings.

However, rejecting speculations surrounding his visit, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari a day earlier categorically stated that there was no political agenda behind his decision to meet Sharif.

He had expressed concern over the health of the supreme leader of the main opposition party and demanded that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government provide proper healthcare facilities to him. He stressed the need for the government to treat the issue of Sharif’s health with utmost seriousness.
