CHAMAN: Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sajid Khan lost his life in a roadside blast targeting his vehicle at a busy street in Chaman this morning, ARY News reported.
The blast occurred near Boghra Road, prompting rescue and law and enforcement agencies into action and they rushed to the spot.
SSP Sajid Khan’s vehicle was targeted in the blast and he suffered serious injuries. The senior cop was immediately moved to the hospital where doctors termed his condition critical, and moments later he breathed his last.
Reports suggest that the firing ensued shortly after the blast. Security agencies have cordoned off the area and determining nature of the blast.
Emergency has been imposed across all hospitals of the district.
The border crossing between the town of Chaman and Spin Boldak is the second most important crossing on the Afghan-Pakistani border.
Suspicious Boghara Town where blast occurred
Security agencies had arrested a suspected Afghan spy in April this year, believed to be behind assassinations and bombings in Balochistan.
The move had come two weeks after the law enforcers detained another man it said was an Indian spy who illegally entered the country and was also captured in Balochistan.
“The arrested man is an Afghan national living in a rented house in Boghara area at the outskirts of Chaman town. Paramilitary forces raided the house on intelligence and detained him,” Manzoor Ahmed spokesman for the paramilitary force had said.
“He was working for Afghan spy agency National Directorate of Security (NDS),” Ahmed said. Initial interrogation pointed to an NDS role in killings and blasts in the Baluchistan cities of Chaman and Quetta.
Security forces also said they had seized a large arms and ammunition cache due to information gleaned from the Afghan.
