Boxer Muhammad Waseem meets army chief

RAWALPINDI: World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Flyweight Champion Muhammad Waseem on Friday met Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at General Headquarters.

According to Inter Services Public Relations, military’s public affairs wing, Gen Bajwa praised boxer Muhammad Waseem for his outstanding feats in the boxing.

The army chief also expressed his confidence that Pakistani youth will follow Waseem’s footsteps to bring good name to the country.

In November last year, Waseem defeated Philippines’ Giemel Magramo in Seoul, South Korea to successfully defend his title.

The Quetta-born boxer outplayed Magreamo in a tough 12-round fight and won by a 3-0 unanimous decision.

Magreamo was undefeated in his previous 17 bouts and previously held the WBC International flyweight belt.
