The police had arrested four people including Arif Shah, the victim’s brother-in-law after the medical report of the minor proved rape, torture and death by strangulation.
SSP Investigation Malir Abid Hussain Qaimkhani today claimed that Arif not only confessed raping the girl multiple times in the past but also confessed torturing her in order to silence the minor. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused while a DNA test will also be conducted in order to obtain forensic evidence against the accused.
Found from Bhittaibabad area and taken to Jinnah Hospital on July 31, the seven-year-old’s medical report was a shocker as it confirmed that minor girl was brutally tortured and raped for about a month. Her body had severe injury marks including those of cigarette burns.
The cause of death was listed as asphyxiation due to strangulation.
The incident is the latest in several child abuse cases in the country. Earlier this year, Pakistan was shaken by rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab Ansari in Punjab province’s Kasur.
Kidnapped on January 4 and found from a garbage heap on January 9, Zainab’s autopsy report suggested that the minor was sexually assaulted before being strangulated to death.
On January 21, the Supreme Court gave three days’ time to a joint investigation team formed to probe the rape and murder of Zainab to track down the culprit.
The JIT arrested the culprit named Imran Arshad on January 23 after the DNA proved that he was behind the rape and murder of Zainab and at least eight other girls from Kasur.
He was sentenced to death over the heinous crime.
