CAA bans Gutka, betel leaf chewing in Jinnah Airport limits

KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has imposed ban on chewing betel leaf, betel nuts, Gutka and smoking in Jinnah Airport limits, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The CAA has decided to take action against those indulge in smoking, chewing Gutka, Naswar, areca nut and betel leaf in the airport premises.

Gutka is a preparation of chewing tobacco made of crushed areca nut, tobacco, catechu, paraffin wax, slaked lime and sweet or savory flavourings.

“The ban will come into force from November 06,” CAA administration announced.

“Action will be taken against those involved in violation of ban within Karachi airport’s limits,” CAA stated.

CAA, airlines staff and all companies employees have been informed about the ban.

“The entry passes of the employees will be cancelled who will found chewing betel leaf, Gutka and betel nuts,” CAA said. “Rs 1000 fine will also be imposed on them”.

The airport administration has spotted Gutka, betel leaf spitting stains in lifts, corridors and the airport terminal building, CAA said.

The CAA has directed the Airport Security Force for crackdown against the menace.
