Talking to newsmen after a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Shah said that he has proposed names of Justice (retd) Mian Ajmal and Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas for appointment as the new CEC.
Syed Khursheed Shah held a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today for holding consultations over the appointment of the new CEC.
The office of the CEC laying vacant after Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim tendered his resignation over allegations of irregularities during general elections of Pakistan in May 2013.
Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered the government to appoint a regular Chief Election Commissioner. A full bench of the Supreme Court last week had set November 13 deadline for the appointment of a new CEC, failing which the judge of the apex court would be withdrawn from officiating as the acting CEC.
Khursheed Shah informed the media that he will meet with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi for consultation over the issue.
He said he will also meet Jamaat Islami, Awami National Party and FATA parliamentarians to discuss the matter.
Shah said he has also advised the government to hold contacts with all parties.
He said the government will consult with Muttahida Qaumi Movement leaders over the matter.
