Celebratory gunfire injures four in Gujranwala wedding party

GUJRANWALA: At least four people, including two children, sustained gunshot injuries after members of a wedding party opened fire in celebration here, ARY News reported on Saturday.

According to police officials, the firing incident took place in Rohali area of the city during a wedding ceremony.

All the injured have been shifted to District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) Gujranwala, officials said.

The identity of injured couldn’t be ascertained immediately.

As many as six people including bridegroom along with his

brothers were arrested in connection with opening fire to celebrate the occasion, City Police Officer (CPO) Gujranwala said, adding, the raids are being carried out to arrest others who fled the venue after arrival of the police team.

Aerial gunfire has become an increasingly popular celebration custom at lavish Pakistani weddings in recent years.

A sizable number of people have been killed and injured owing to celebratory gunfire at numerous occasions, particularly the wedding ceremonies and New-Year events.
