LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday reiterated that he exercised suo motu powers to resolve the issues tormenting the common people.
Addressing a gathering of the legal fraternity here, the chief justice said there are shortcomings in the judicial system, but attention is being paid to resolving the issues plaguing the system.
Justice Nisar said: “I cannot do anything alone and need cooperation of everybody. I have said on a number of occasions that suggestions should be given for reforms.”
He once again clarified that he took suo motu notices to resolve the issues of the common men and categorically stated that the judiciary was not meddling in the affairs that the executive is obliged to do.
The chief justice said he felt very upset after seeing the state of a mental health facility in Lahore, which he visited today.
He said there are people who cannot even afford a pill to cure headache. He requested for prayers, saying he would resolve the issues of people provided that he is blessed with good health and sufficient time.
At a point during his speech, tears brimmed in the chief justice’s eyes when he talked about respect he has been given by the legal fraternity, saying: “the respect the bar has given me had never been given by anyone.”
