RAWALPINDI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday said that most of the hospitals in the country lack basic facilities and the sector needs a lot of improvement, ARY News reported.
Addressing a seminar in Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, the country’s top judge said that sadly, a large number of hospitals, particularly the government-run, lack basic facilities and patients can’t get treatment, even medicine on time.
“This rot is because of corruption and nepotism and this should end, once we start doing this on merit, we can avail benefits for years to come,” said the CJP.
He lamented that one of health sector’s biggest issues is that only the rich can afford medical treatment and proper care and poor are being left to die.
“I have tried to play my part in urging the lawmakers to make laws for improvement of health sector and availability of facilities to all those who need medical care after I saw the condition of hospitals during my visits,” said the CJP.
Saqib Nisar maintained that he saw three to four patients sharing a bed in hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that such lack of regard for health can be termed failure of a government.
He also urged the people belonging to the profession to play their due role in improving the standards and said that medical colleges play an important part in the process.
