Cold wave grips Pakistan, Quetta braves subzero temperature

KHUZDAR: Quetta and parts of northern and central Balochistan are in grip of chilly winds which brought the mercury down to minus 10 degrees Celsius in the provincial capital on Sunday.

Thick snow also covered Murree, the Galiyat, Abbottabad, Swat, Chitral, parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK.

Wave of cold was so intense in the Balochistan capital that it froze water in the pipelines.

Tourists at Malka-e-Kohsar, Murree had a moment to enjoy with snowfall enveloping the valley.

According to met office, cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on Sunday.

However, rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in  Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Lahore, divisions, upper FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Temperature fell to minus three degree Celsius in Quetta. Gusty cold winds from the Balochistan capital are likely to envelop Karachi by Monday, and will increase ‘cold wave’ in the city.

Meanwhile, foggy conditions are likely to continue over plain areas of Punjab and Sindh during night and morning hours.

Temperature of some major cities recorded this morning:

Islamabad five degree centigrade, Lahore eight, Karachi twelve, Peshawar four, Quetta minus five, Gilgit zero, Murree minus three and Muzaffarabad four degree centigrade.
