Chasing 271 runs to win and level the series, Pakistan could only manage to put up 165 on the board in their second innings.
Pakistan lost seven wickets on day four which paved the way for the Lankan side to give a perfect farewell win to one of their most celebrated cricketer Mahela Jayawardene at his home ground.
Sarfaraz Ahmed was the only player who provided some resistance to the Lankan bowlers as he managed to score 55 runs from 89 balls. Asad Shafiq scored 32 runs from 75 balls whereas Khurram Manzoor and Azhar Ali each put up 10 runs on the board.
Captain Misbah-ul-Haq managed to score just three runs.
Rangana Herath proved to be the star once again for the hosts as he took five wickets in the innings, increasing his wicket tally to 14 in the match. He took nine wickets in the first innings which was his career best performance.
