Complaint filed against Om Puri for supporting Pakistani artists

MUMBAI: A complaint has been filed against veteran Indian actor Om Puri for making comments about Indian army during a show in which he was invited to talk about a ban on Pakistani artists amid rising tension in the region.
In the TV show aired on Monday, Mr Puri said, “Did we force them to join the army? My father was also in the army… We are proud of them (soldiers)… I am asking you: Do you want India and Pakistan to become Israel and Palestine?

Mr Puri, who recently made his acting debut in Pakistan, was speaking on the burning controversy after an association of Hindi film producers barred Pakistani actors in the aftermath of the Uri terror attacks.
“I don’t give a damn to Salman Khan or some other Khan… Go to Modiji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and cancel their (Pakistani actors’) visas. Prepare 15-20 people as suicide bombers and send them to Pakistan,” said the 65-year-old actor at the end of a furious televised debate and before leaving the live show in the middle.

Mr Puri visited Pakistan in August to promote the Pakistani film “Actor in Law”, in which he plays a key role.
During the heated debate, the Indian actor constantly maintained that a ban on Pakistani artists would not change anything other than causing losses to Indian producers.
Star Indian actor Salman Khan also faced a strong reaction in India after he came out in full support of Pakistan artists being threatened to leave India recently amid rising tensions between the two countries.
Shiv Sena, a hardliner Indian political party, earlier advised Indian star actor Salman Khan to migrate to Pakistan if he loves Pakistani artists so much.
