Condemnations, condolences pour in following Maulana Sami-ul-Haq’s assassination

ISLAMABAD: A large number of condolences poured in following the assassination of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-S (JUI-S) Chief Maulana Sami-ul-Haq in Rawalpindi on Friday, ARY News reported.

The president, prime minister, senior politicians, celebrities and others expressed condolences on this occasion.

The report of the assassination was confirmed by Maulana Sami-ul-Haq’s son Maulana Hamid-ul Haq, while talking to ARY News.

“Some unknown assailants stabbed him at his residence,” he said. Maulana Sami-ul-Haq was rushed to Safari Hospital in Rawalpindi, where he succumbed to his injuries.

President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq.

Condemning this tragic incident, he expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.

The president paid tributes to Maulana Sami-ul-Haq’s religious, social and political services.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly condemned the martyrdom of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq.

In a statement from Beijing, the PM directed to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He said Sami-ul-Haq was a great scholar of Islam.

According to media wing of armed forces, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has strongly condemned assassination of renowned religious scholar and political leader Maulana Sami ul Haq. The army chief expressed grief and condolences to the bereaved family.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has condemned the assassination of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq and sought report from the Inspector General of Punjab police.

Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has also condemned the assassination.

In a statement, he said Maulana Sami-ul-Haq’s political and religious services will be remembered.

Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan condemned the incident and said anti-state elements were attempting to destabilise the country.

JUI-Fazl chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman expressed remorse over the tragic incident.

He said he was saddened to learn of his assassination. He expressed solidarity with Maulana’s family saying that the demise was a big loss for all of us.

Fazl said the murder was an open terrorism.

Expressing remorse on the tragic incident, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj-ul-Haq said his services for religion and politics would always be remembered. He demanded from the government to arrest the assassinators. He said it appeared as if his martyrdom stemmed out of a conspiracy.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Allama Tahir-ul-Qadri tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic assassination of #MaulanaSamiulHaq. Pakistan has lost an important religious and political figure. The killers and their masterminds must be arrested forthwith.”

Who was Maulana Sami ul Haq?

Maulana Sami-ul-Haq belonged to the spiritual family of Akora Khattak where he was born in 1936. A holder of Sanad-e-Fazilat-o-Faraghat and Sanad Daura Tafseer-e-Quran from Darul Aloom Haqqania, Akora Khattak and Sheik-ul-Hadith (Honorary) of Deoband. Maulana Sahib imparted religious education at his alma mater to the students and held important positions in the academic and administrative staff of the Darul Aloom Haqqania.

As a member of Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam, he conducted, with success, the election campaign for his father Maulana Abdul Haq in 1970,1977 and 1985 and assisted him in carrying out his obligations as a Member of the National Assembly.

He was an active protagonist of Tahreek-i-Khatam-e-Nabowat in 1974 and Tahreek-i-Nizam-i-Mustafa in 1977. He remained a member of the Majlis-i-Shoora in 1983-85 and was a member of the Presidential Committee on religious matters.

He was elected to the Senate in 1985 and was one of the principal movers of the historic Shariat Bill in the Senate. He was re-elected as Senator in 1991 for another six year term.
