Couple shot dead for marrying of freewill in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: A couple was shot dead for marrying out of their own freewill in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Police said unidentified assailants in a car opened fire at the couple identified as Akhlaq and his spouse Ramsha, critically injuring them. They succumbed to gunshot wounds on the spot.

The police said the couple had recently tied the knot out of their own freewill. Efforts are underway to arrest the culprits, the police added.

Last month, a couple along with their two minor sons was slaughtered in the name of honour in Nissowal village.

Police said Sana, a resident of Nissowal village married Firdous about four years ago against the will of her father.

When Sana along with her husband Firdous and two sons – two-year-old Zain and one-year-old Hasnain visited her father house in Nissowal village, the girl’s father allegedly slit open their throats with a sharp-edged chopper.
