KARACHI: Sindh police chief A.D Khawaja in an application submitted in court on Wednesday sought surrender of his services to the federal government during a hearing in Sindh High Court (SHC), ARY News reported.
Khawaja’s counsel, advocate Shahab Osto appeared before the court on behalf of his client and submitted an application seeking the court’s order to allow the IGP to relinquish his charge.
The application stipulated that it has become terribly difficult for the IGP Sindh to continue his post under the prevalent situation, adding, the IGP facing increasing hostility from political quarters while the provincial government intends to send him packing and appoint a favorite officer.
Through his lawyer, Khawaja made a request to the court for an order that his services be surrendered to the federal government.
However, the bench declined the plea and sustained its stay on his removal till the court deliberate the matter.
It is worth mentioning here that the provincial government had surrendered Inspector General Sindh Police A.D. Khawaja’s services to the federal government last month, stating that it was instead appointing Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti – another Grade21 police officer – working in the province at his place.
A divisional bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar, had then suspended the provincial government’s notification and ordered Khawaja to continue his duties as the provincial police chief till further notice.
