Death toll from toxic liquor rises to 32 in Karachi

At least 17 people are currently under-treatment at a hospital in Karachi. Those died after consuming poisonous liquor belonged to the slum areas of Karachi including Landhi, Korangi, Bilal Colony and Zaman Town. The victims were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC).

Sell of home-made toxic liquor is rampant in outskirt areas including Landhi, Korangi, Quaidabad, Baldia, Sharafi Goth, Sachal Goth and Surjani Town. The medical reports of the deaths would soon come to light.

Taking action after the rise in death toll, the Sindh government suspended five senior policemen on charges of negligence in their duties. Similarly directors of excise and taxation of Hyderabad and Karachi have also been suspended.

A petition has also been filed at the Sindh High Court over illegal sale of liquor that caused deaths of over 30 people so far during Eid days.
