Minister orders degrees verification of PTV employees recruited after 2008

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Monday issued directives for verification of educational degrees of the employees of Pakistan Television Corporation and Radio Pakistan recruited after 2008.

In a statement, the minister said that the three-member board being constituted for this purpose would be headed by Director General Internal Publicity Wing.

The process of degree verification would be completed within one month time, he said adding a representative of Higher Education Commission will also be part of the broad to help in completion o the process.

He said that the process would start from senior officers and would degrees of all employees of PTV and Radio Pakistan would be completed. The minister said that those officers and employees whose degrees would not be verified, will have to refund their received salaries.

The persons who had appointed them on the posts would also be issued notices, he said.

On Sept 26, the government had decided to withdraw its plan to lease out historical building of Radio Pakistan after strong resistance put up by the employees. The employees had resisted the government move and taken to the streets.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Khan said Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry wanted the uplift of Radio Pakistan hence he had announced the leasing plan, saying ‘we don’t intend to sale the building or the institution.”

He stated that the government was now withdrawing proposal to lease out the building.

The minister said the employees would now have to float proposals within a month on betterment of the state-run radio service.

He assured the employees that the Information Minister would not take any decision against the employees.
