KARACHI: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said on Wednesday no individual is greater than an institution and no institution is more important than the state.
In an exclusive interview to ARY News’s 11th Hour programme hosted by Waseem Badami, the DG ISPR replying a question said the Army will act upon any govt decision on the sit-in in Islamabad.
The Army spokesman unequivocally denied a confrontation between civil and military institutions. “Pakistan Army is rendering sacrifices and putting all-out efforts to stable the law and order situation across the country; we cannot think of confrontation between civil and military institutions,” Maj General Ghafoor underscored.
He said the Armed Forces of Pakistan, as an institution, are well wisher of other institutions as they wants to see all state institutions work together.
“The army will act according to decisions which the government makes,” the DG ISPR said, adding that the army values the constitution but its clause should not be exploited for personal uses.
“Its everyone’s due responsibility to keep the Constitution supreme,” he underlined.
Moreover, he said that the forces cannot move without support and cooperation of the nation.
Referring to the Islamabad sit-in, Maj Gen Ghafoor opined that it would be better to resolve the situation amicably. However, he added that the army would act upon whatever course of action the government decides on the matter.
