DIG Shariq Jamal death: Police arrest two as probe continues

LAHORE: The Punjab police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a man and his wife — who reportedly brought Lahore Deputy Inspector General Shariq Jamal’s body to the hospital, ARY News reported.

According to police, Jamal was brought to a private hospital in DHA at 1:30am and declared dead on arrival. The DIG was at the couple’s flat at the time of his death, they say.

“A further probe into the death of Lahore DIG is underway,” said police.

It is pertinent to mention here that Jamal’s sudden death has raised concerns, leading the authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

Lahore’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shariq Jamal was found dead at his residence in the DHA area in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to police, the body of DIG Shariq Jamal Khan was found in a private flat 104/A and was shifted to National Hospital. However, it was later moved to Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Upon receiving the news, a team of police officers rushed to the hospital to oversee the investigation personally.

A case was also registered on the complaint of the deceased DIG’s wife.

The DIG was currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD). He has also served as DIG traffic and DIG railways.
