Child’s death in shootout: IGP Sindh tenders apology to Ahsan’s family

KARACHI: Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh, Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, on Wednesday tendered an apology to the 19-month-old Ahsan’s family on behalf of the police department and vowed not to let the incident repeated again in future, ARY News reported.

Dr Imam, while addressing a press conference in Karachi, said that he has urged high-level officers to conduct a specialised training session to police personnel.

“We will make sure for not repeating such incidents again,” the police chief vowed, adding that Sindh Police expressed sorrow over the child’s death.

“We have briefed all of our officials regarding their duties but we will give more training to our personnel with the light weapon as the usage of heavy arms were ended.”

While detailing sacrifices of the police department, Imam said that more than 2,500 personnel were martyred to eliminate lawlessness, which significantly reduced crime rate up to 53 per cent including mobile snatching cases. The police also department arrested 71 terrorists and 12 target killers.

He said that Sindh Police follows the rule of law and believes in being accountable before the courts and nation. “I want to apologise to the affected family and we are standing with them.”

On April 16, a 19-month-old boy, Ahsan, had sustained a bullet in his chest reportedly fired from a police weapon resulting in his death.

The case has been registered against unknown persons on the complaint of the victim child’s father Kashif on charges of attempted and unintentional murder.
