Addressing a meeting at Governor House on cleanliness of kitchens at hotels and restaurants, the governor vowed that no leniency would be demonstrated in this regard and instructed officials to pay surprise visits to eateries.
The governor instructed that there should be separate uniform, gloves and gowns for kitchen staff at hotels and restaurants, and separate dress for waiters so as to distinguish between them.
He also instructed that health certificates or health cards should be issued to waiters, kitchen staff and other employees to ensure that there adhere to basic health and safety standards.
Ebad said that food cleanliness and hygiene
should be strictly enforced at kitchens and restaurants as it was in the interest of the people. It was the foremost duty of the government to ensure this and this will work together with restaurant owners, administrations and unions for the implementation of laws.
He also order that the list of all unregistered hotels and restaurants be compiled after taking all relevant stakeholders in consideration. He said that authorities should not confine themselves and take prompt action on public complaints.
He said that all laws were present under the Environmental Management Plan and it was the responsibility of the government to protect them.
