ECP reviews arrangements for 2018 elections

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza in the chair is underway to review arrangements for the upcoming general elections today in the federal capital. 

The chief secretaries of all the provinces, additional chief secretary of FATA and chief commissioner Islamabad are attending the meeting.

The meeting will discuss a wide range of matters related to 2018 elections, which include district-wise progress report on missing facilities as indicated by the Commission, the process of procurement and installation of CCTV cameras in most sensitive polling stations, availability of complete list of officers and officials to be appointed as polling staff and law and order situation during the election process including pre-poll election campaign with special reference to the recent attack on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal.

According to ECP officials, the electoral body received 1286 objections during thirty days till 3rd of the last month, out of which 689 objections were received from Punjab, 284 from Sindh, 181  from KP, 104 from Balochistan, 17 from Islamabad while 11 objections from FATA.

According to the final delimitation 2018, there will be 272 constituencies of the National Assembly while 297 constituencies for Punjab Assembly, 130 for Sindh Assembly, 99 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and 51 for Balochistan Assembly.
