ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to allot Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) the election symbol of ‘bat’ for upcoming by-elections, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
The election commission has refused to allot the PTI bat’s symbol as the party has failed to hold the intra-party elections.
It is compulsory for all political parties to hold the intra-party elections under the political parties act.
The ECP has said that the PTI had to submit the details of its party elections by March 23, but it failed to do so.
The party symbol will not be allotted to the PTI till submission of the details of the party election, ECP sources said.
The PTI candidates will not be issued the party election symbol in the upcoming by-elections in PP-23 in Chakwal, PS-81 in Sanghar and PK-82 in Kohistan. The party candidates would have to contest as an independent candidate with any other election symbol.
PTI leadership has decided to challenge the election commission decision in the high court.
Moreover, the election commission has also issued a code of conduct notice to PTI chairman Imran Khan for holding a public meeting for the party candidate in Chakwal.
