ECP has stated that the by-elections in Multan cannot be delayed. The by-polls will be held on 16th October as per the schedule.
Punjab Government had requested the election commission to postpone the by-elections on security grounds.
It should be noted that the seat was vacated after former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi had announced his resignation. Hashmi earlier had announced that he will contest the election as an independent candidate.
