The election commission has summoned six persons including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Hamza Shahbaz, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar in the hearing of references on 6th September.
PPP’s Barrister Latif Khosa, in his arguments in the hearing of the case, said that PM Nawaz Sharif is the actual owner of the offshore companies, as his children were minor when these companies were registered.
The PPP counsel argued that Nawaz Sharif in the column of assets had wrote that he has no home and living in the residence of his mother.
It should be noted that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Awami Muslim League (AML) had filed separate references seeking PM Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, in the election commission.
It was stated in the references that Nawaz Sharif is not eligible to become the prime minister under the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution.
Article 62 and 63 of the constitution states that a person has to be Sadiq and Ameen (honest and truthful) in order to become the prime minister of the country.
The election commission had become non functional after its members completed their tenure on 12th June this year. However, after appointment of the new members of the commission the election body has started to hear cases pending with it.
ECP heard the references filed against the Prime Minister and his family members and ordered them to appear before it in the hearing on 6th September.
