ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday decided to consult with President Arif Alvi and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for elections in Punjab and KP, ARY News reported citing sources.
As per details, the advisory meeting of ECP headed by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) concluded and it is decided to consult with the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and President Arif Alvi.
Sources said that the ECP will write a letter to the president and governor KP within two days. The month of April is suitable for holding elections in both provinces.
The ECP require Rs 30 billion for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs 5 billion have been received so far while the commission has asked for further Rs 25 billion. The ECP also need 1 lac 17 thousand security personnel for elections in both provinces, sources added.

The commission also considers to write a letter to Lahore High Court (LHC) again.
Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 90 days.
The Supreme Court (SC) announced a split verdict of 3-2 after the completion of the hearing on the suo moto notice on Tuesday.
It is pertinent to mention here that President Dr Arif Alvi announced April 9 as the date for holding general elections for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies. The announced the date under section 57(2) of the constitution.
Punjab and KP assemblies were dissolved on Jan 18 and Jan 14, respectively, after former prime minister Imran Khan had announced to dissolve assemblies in an attempt to force the government to hold snap polls.
As per the Constitution of Pakistan, polls need to be held for the dissolved assemblies in 90 days.
