Google has on Wednesday revealed the annual Year in Search which highlights the top searches in Pakistan in 2016.
Previously called Google Zeitgeist, the Year in Search provides a snapshot of the trends, people, and happenings that captured the nation’s interest during the year.
Google said that many topics set a new all-time high in search interest, but some were unexpected and surprising.
Among the most searched person include renowned social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi and qawwal Amjad Sabri, both of whom passed away in 2016.
Abdul Sattar Edhi, the renowned humanitarian, passed away on July 8 after an extended illness. His death seemed to create a void among the social welfare circles but his legacy lingers on.
Famous qawwal Amjad Sabri was killed in a brazen gun attack near his home in Karachi on June 22. His tragic death sent shock waves among fans across the nation who revered him for his soulful mesmerizing voice.
Singer Momina Mustehsan who became a overnight sensation after an appearance on Coke Studio also made it to the list.
US billionaire and President-elect Donald Trump was among the most searched results, probably due to his upset win over rival Hillary Clinton. His wife Melania and daughter Ivanka also captured public interest and were searched on Google.
