Now Elon Musk will solve your problems as he has announced plans to design a robot to solve your housework.
The maverick entrepreneur has found fame for bringing electric cars to the masses and taking people to Mars and is also known as the founder of Paypal. Musk who is currently the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX has announced that his new robotics firm, Open AI, will be developing ‘domestic robots’ that can perform basic household chores.
This brings us to the endless possibilities of artificial intelligence. In a blog post, Musk stated that “We believe that learning algorithms can eventually be made reliable enough to create a general-purpose robot.”
It is hoped that they will a robot which will perform by simply speaking to it, and the robot will also asking for clarification if it doesn’t understand your request.
However, Musk and his partner Sam Altman who is the President of
venture Y Combinator are fully aware about the risks of artificial intelligence. In 2014, Musk had said that artificial intelligence was “our biggest existential threat” and warned against “summoning the demon” through its development. He had said that if human intelligence is exceeded then it is unlikely that we will remain in control of the world.
Musk has already $1 billion for the project from technology heavy weights including Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel. However, they will be developing robots on already existing technology by taking off-the-shelf robots and altering them to do housework.
Musk and Altman have said that they want to monitor and participate in the advances in artificial intelligence so that it doesn’t become too great a threat. The stated goal of Open AI is to “advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return.”
